Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash

On Sunday evening, April 17, a man died in Memphis in a motorcycle crash when hit by a drunk driver.

According to police, the accident happened at around 8.30 p.m. near Lamar Avenue and Knight Arnold Road. A red pickup truck being driven by 38 year old Onesimo Gardea was going north on Lamar. He made a left turn into a private driveway and hit the motorcycle before leaving the scene. The man who died was 21 year old Christopher Kinsey III. An investigation revealed Gardea was driving his red pickup truck heading northbound on Lamar and made a left turn into a private driveway, causing the motorcycle to strike the passenger side of the truck. The motorcycle driver, who has been identified as 21-year-old Christopher Kinsey, was pronounced dead on the scene.

A witness identified Gardea and the Memphis Police Department met arrested him and conducted a sobriety test as he had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. They charged him with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, no license, no registration, no insurance, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
