Pedestrian Killed on the Shelby Farms Greenline

A pedestrian has been killed while walking on the Shelby Farms Greenline.

According to police, a van crashed into the 69 year old unidentified man who was walking his dog on the Greenline near the intersection of Princeton Road and Waring Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are currently investigating and the van has been towed. The female van driver remained on the scene but was cited from driving without insurance. It is not known whether further citations or charges will be forthcoming.

The victim’s dog was uninjured and was taken by Memphis Animal Services.

Others who use the trail have mentioned how dangerous the trail is and Michael Warren Gates said that he has been hit by a vehicle when walking and when cycling. Others say that cars drive too fast and that speed bumps are needed.

Memphis police said there were no witnesses to the crash, but they are hoping there may be video and Gates hopes that this accident will make drivers more careful.

Throughout Tennessee the number of pedestrian fatalities is on the increase, especially in the Memphis area with 67 pedestrians killed throughout the state so far this year. This is two more than at the same time last year,

Pedestrian was Hit and Killed

On Thursday, March 24, a pedestrian was hit and killed on the Interstate 240 near Perkins Road.

According to Memphis police, the accident happened shortly before 6 a.m. when 49 year old Frank James of West Memphis walked onto the Interstate 240 and was hit by a tow truck in the westbound lanes. The impact knocked him into other lanes where he was then hit by several more vehicles.

It appears that the accident happened between Perkins Road and Getwell when James left his car on the roadway following a collision between a tow truck and another car but when he left his car he was hit himself.

James was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the second pedestrian accident in two days as the previous day 55 year old Kevin Jordan was killed by a runaway trailer on Park Avenue near Echles Street. The trailer had come loose from a 2008 Dodge Ram headed west on Park Avenue.
