On Saturday night, July 9, a teen from Lewisburg was killed in a single vehicle accident.
According to authorities, the accident happened shortly before midnight, on Interstate 55 near the Mississippi Department of Transportation weigh station. A late model BMW Mini Cooper, being driven by a female driver with two passengers, one male and one female hydroplaned due to a heavy downpour on the Interstate and flipped over, ending up between two trees.
Sixteen year old Ronnie Zelaya, of Olive Branch was the male passenger in the vehicle and he died in the accident. The two females, both juveniles, were taken to local hospitals but were not seriously injured.
Zelaya had attended Lewisburg High School and was said to be enrolled at a private school in Memphis.
The accident is still under investigation.
