On Saturday, October 15, two people were killed and one critically injured when a car was hit by a semi trailer on I-55 near Shelby Drive in Memphis.
According to the Memphis Police Department the accident happened at around 3 a.m. when a 2004 Nissan Altima stalled in the middle lane of I-55 heading northbound. It had no lights and a semi-trailer hit the car in the rear causing the female in the back seat to be ejected. She was taken to the Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition. The two females in the front seats were killed.
Several good Samaritans who stopped were involved in subsequent accidents. The driver of a Honda Civic pulled into the middle lane near the crash site and put on his flashers due to the accident. Another driver traveling on I-55 slid in an attempt to avoid the Honda, lost control, and hit an Infinite G37S, the Honda, and finally a Ford Expedition.
